::Full Show Creation:: ::Problem Solving::

With a strong background in theatre, Amelie has consulted various shows on production issues & act development. In a freelance choreography role, Amelie has re-choreographed & ‘fixed’ acts for both dancers, variety artists and singers looking for movement. Some of these acts are now in larger productions, touring internationally. As a ‘fixer’, Amelie has designed show themes, cast performers, arranged logistics of travel, accommodation & prop hire and in one case; stage managed at the very last minute for The Big Chill Festival.

Amelie has coached circus skills for UK based productions from learning to juggle/use poi for pantos to walking the tight-wire for the role of Barnum in ‘Barnum in Bailey,’ and trapeze for touring productions of Angela Carter’s Nights at The Circus.’

After circus school, Amelie directed several circus productions in festivals such as The Bristol Harbourside, Newcastle Green Festival and Northern Green Gathering. She has also directed & teched independant productions within The Sage, Gateshead, Northern Stage, The Live Theatre and Durham Gala Theatre.

Whilst working for the circus agency associated with the school, Amelie booked artists across the world, negotiating fees, travel & sorting the visas and logistical nightmares to ensure a smooth show. This work was continued when asked to be the arts administrator for a dance company with Dance City, Newcastle responsible for booking, contracting and arranging their UK tour. Amelie left Dance City in 2009 to take on further freelance admin work for several circuses including Dream State Circus and eventually Frayed Knot Circus. She is well known in the community for making the impossible become possible, ensuring standards are maintained and managing both herself & Edd Muir whilst each might be in different countries at the same time.

As a board member of The Arts Council of England Development of Youth Circus UK committee, Amelie has been surrounded by recent discussions about how to update & integrate circus and variety for the modern audience. Using this, plus dance training, Amelie is often retained as a ‘Second Eye’ for variety acts, the cabaret equivalent of a dramaturg.

Once employed on this basis, Amelie will research historical and social conditions, specific locations, time periods, and/or theatrical styles of work chosen by the performer. She may also develop original choreography and locate plus notate worthy movement from other work to inspire the artist. Despite occasional intimate connection with all aspects of the artists selection, production, and performance, Amelie will remain independent and keep a critical eye on the artist’s creative activities.
